Woman fined for leaving bags by recycling banks
A woman has been fined £75 after leaving blue bags next to the recycling banks in St Clears.
The woman, from Laugharne, admitted leaving them there, and was issued with a fixed penalty notice by council environmental enforcement officers for the offence.
Failure to pay the fixed penalty notice could result in court prosecution and a fine of up to £2,500.
There is no facility for blue bags at the site; if people miss their kerbside collection they can take them to their nearest household waste recycling centre.
She is the second person to be fined by officers in recent weeks, despite a sign at the site warning people not to leave any rubbish on the ground.
Unfortunately it is becoming a problem not just in St Clears, but at recycling sites across the county.
A number of sites are covered by CCTV cameras; and officers are also stepping up patrols.
Executive Board Member for Environmental and Public Protection Cllr Jim Jones is warning that anyone caught dumping rubbish will be fined.
“These sites are important facilities for communities, but people are dumping all kinds of rubbish or are just too lazy to put them into the recycling banks,” he said.
“This will not be tolerated and anyone caught will be fined. Hopefully these latest fines will act as a warning to others.”
