Work To Keep Rights Of Way In Order

Horse riders can make their way between Kidwelly and Mynydd y Garreg thanks to a funding programme for Public Rights of Way. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The work has been carried out by Carmarthenshire County Council thanks to the Rights of Way Improvement Plan Funding Programme from the Welsh Government. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The programme, managed by Natural Resources Wales and implemented by the county council, has continued for another year, providing over £54,000 of funding to the Countryside/Outdoor Recreation Unit in Leisure – a vital boost to the Rights of Way Network in Carmarthenshire. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The 1.18km bridleway is an important link from Kidwelly to Mynydd y Garreg which suffered frequent flooding and became an impassable bog. Works supported by Kidwelly Town Council and the British Horse Society to remedy the problem involved significant surfacing and drainage along with the installation of a special horse-friendly vehicle barrier to prevent future damage to the upgraded route. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The council’s executive board member for regeneration and leisure, Cllr Meryl Gravell said: “Work such as that between Kidwelly and Mynydd y Garreg improves access to our countryside and I’m delighted that the ROWIP programme is enabling us to continue to improve our footpath and bridleway network.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
