Crowds turned out to enjoy a host of seasonal activities in Treharris town centre culminating in the switch on of the Christmas lights with Her Worship the Mayor, Councillor Margaret Davies. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Thankfully the rain held off and a couple of hundred local people came to see the lights switched on at Treharris Square. The crowd was also treated to a beautiful performance by the Treharris Choir of Light before making their way to St Matthias Church for a further carol service delivered by the Treharris Male Voice Choir. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The switch on was the climax of a day of festive fun in Treharris Town Centre including a local market, seasonal music, and a special visit from Santa. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The event was jointly organised by Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council and St Matthias Church in Treharris. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Local Councillor Richard Thomas said: “As a local councillor It was great to see so many people turn out for the annual switching on of the Christmas lights in Treharris. The square was buzzing and St Matthias Church was also a hive of activity after the switch on.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

He added: “Father Christmas was very busy in the church and it was wonderful to see him there with his two elves. My thanks go to Father Gareth for providing the thirsty parents with a cup of mulled wine and a mince pie. Everyone enjoyed themselves and Treharris as a town was really busy – as we hope it will be in the future.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Ray O’Neil from the Treharris Boys and Girls Club, who had one of the market stalls, on the day at the switch on said: “We were delighted to take part in the event and are extremely pleased with turnout from the local people. It was great to see the community coming together in celebration.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
