Explore The Unexplored – Google Streetview Comes To Merthyr Tydfil
The spectacular walking scenery of the County Borough is no longer a secret and can now be viewed online by the entire world!
The Google Trekker Loan Programme accepted MTCBC’s Planning and Countryside Department’s unique bid to highlight the local scenery and heritage online on Google StreetView. The locations winning the bid included popular tourist attraction Cyfarthfa Castle, Park, Ironworks and Viaduct, Gurnos Tramroad and Leat, Morlais Quarry, Taff Trail, Parc Taf Bargoed, Taf Fechan Nature Reserve, Pontsticill and Brecon Mountain Railway.
Staff carried the ‘Google Trekker’ (a specialist off-road rucksack camera used to capture images on foot) around paths and trails in relays because of the awkward shape and heavy weight, which made for some interesting and curious looks from passers-by!
To see the locations simply visit Google Maps online and drag and drop the yellow pegman on to the required paths.
