Farmers’ Market Almost Doubles In Size
This month’s Merthyr Tydfil Farmer’s Market has almost doubled in size to 19 stalls, offering everything from pottery to pies.
Friday’s (October 7) open air market at Graham Way on the High Street will feature a wide range of delicious locally home grown and produced food, along with unique jewellery and crafts collections.
As well as chilli sauce manufacturer Chilli of the Valley and Fair Trade Merthyr’s selection of Fair Trade chocolate, cereals and biscuits, the October market will also have a selection of hand-made pieces from LynB Jewellery from Pontsarn.
Market Manager, Chris Hall, said: “We’re delighted to see a big increase in the number of traders, from around a dozen last time to 19 this week. Our customers are very happy with our unique Welsh produce and keep coming back.
“Our food hygiene ratings are mainly 5s – 4 being the lowest – so the quality of our goods is of the highest standard. Although this tends to create the impression that farmers’ markets are expensive, that definitely isn’t true. They simply offer amazing value for money.”
The market is held on the first Friday of every month, from 10am-2pm. To qualify to trade there, produce must be grown, reared or have added value and be from within a 50-mile radius of Merthyr Tydfil.
Chris Hall is keen to attract more traders from within the County Borough. “We’d welcome any local farmers – maybe those with farm shops – who want to venture out and join Team Merthyr,” he added.
Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Councillor Chris Barry, said: “The farmers’ market is a fantastic opportunity for the wealth of local producers we know we have in Merthyr Tydfil to display and profit from what they offer. We urge them to give us a try.”
