Merthyr Tydfil Farmers’ Market Set To Grow And Grow
Merthyr Tydfil Farmers’ Market – the only regular event of its kind in the South Wales Valleys – is set to expand with the addition of a further six traders.
The monthly market at Graham Way on the High Street, which stopped operating late last year due to difficulties in finding a company to provide the stall service, resumed in April.
The second one takes place thisFriday (May 6) when the dozen stalls at the inaugural event will be joined by businesses including local chilli sauce producer Chilli of the Valley and Fairtrade Merthyr, offering Fairtrade products including chocolate, cereals and biscuits.
“I was very happy with the way the first one went,” said Market Manager Chris Hall. “There was a good turnout, despite very cold weather, and it will improve still further the longer we go on.”
The market is held on the first Friday of every month, from 10am-2pm. To qualify to trade there, produce must be grown, reared or have added value and be from within a 50-mile radius of Merthyr Tydfil.
Town Centre Manager Rhian Prosser said: “We were delighted with the success of the first market, but are always looking for new traders to join us who can supply something we don’t already offer.”
