Merthyr Tydfil’s New Street Stalls For Love Your Local Market Week

Merthyr Tydfil’s popular outdoor market has grown in size this week as part of a national annual celebration of street markets. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Love Your Local Market Week, which runs until Tuesday, May 31, has seen St Tydfil Indoor Market traders emerge into the sunshine to join the vendors in High Street and Market Square on Tuesdays and Saturdays. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“We’re proud of the number and quality of markets that we have here, although shoppers who visit specifically for the outdoor stalls may not know about the wide selection of goods available upstairs in St Tydfil’s,” said Town Centre Manager Rhian Prosser. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“Markets are a vital part of our town centre. The Love Your Local Market campaign celebrates the uniqueness of markets, and we’re hoping the experience will encourage the new traders to stay.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The campaign is the first in a series of food-related events taking place in Merthyr Tydfil through the summer, including the Awesome Merthyr Chilli Fiesta on June 11 and Merthyr Food Festival on July 16. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
