Council To Survey Local Businesses To Aid Enterprise

This article is old - Published: Monday, Mar 14th, 2016

The Chair of Monmouthshire’s Economy and Development Select Committee, Councillor Sara Jones has asked the county’s businesses for information to discover what help the council can offer local enterprises and to gain feedback on any support they’ve received. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Through a series of planned business breakfast events the Committee wishes to know what support has already been offered to local businesses and what challenges or obstacles they face as well as what opportunities are available. In addition, members seek information on any benefits that the council’s iCounty and broadband initiatives have brought. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Businesses may also wish to comment on the proposed City Deal – an economic partnership between ten local authorities in south east Wales – and collaboration between local councils to provide services in partnership. An example is The Vale of Usk Rural Development Programme – a partnership between Monmouthshire and Newport councils to promote rural communities and businesses and increase prosperity. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Councillor Sara Jones said: “Supporting business and job creation is a council priority so we’re keen to promote economic growth in the county. To do so, we need to engage and work with local businesses to help them realise their full potential. Members of our Committee want to ensure that the approach we are taking as a council is the right one by undertaking a scrutiny exercise which will allow us to hear first-hand from those businesses we want to see grow and prosper in Monmouthshire.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Contact Councillor Sara Jones to provide comments or register interest in attending one of the proposed business breakfast events – SaraJones2@monmouthshire.gov.uk – by Monday 4th April. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
