Nominations Invited To Recognise Community Volunteers
Monmouthshire County Council and Gwent Association of Voluntary Organisations (GAVO) are inviting nominations to salute people who generously give their time and share their skills to benefit the community. The two organisations will join forces to host the county’s annual Volunteer Achievement Awards celebration evening with a gala event at Chepstow Leisure Centre on Friday 25th November.
Categories for the awards are Young Volunteer, Adult, Group, Environmental, Trustee, Inspirational Journey and the Monmouthshire Chairman’s Award. Nominations close on Friday 28th October.
The Monmouthshire Volunteer Achievement Awards will be attended by Brigadier Robert Aitken CBE, DL – Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Gwent, Jeff Cuthbert – Gwent Police and Crime Commissioner, Councillor Jim Higginson – Monmouthshire’s Chairman and Councillor Peter Fox, Leader of Monmouthshire County Council.
GAVO’s Volunteering Team Manager and Coordinator (Monmouthshire), Clare Jones said: “By working together, we aim to make this event a bigger and far-reaching celebration, recognising those people or groups who invest their time and passion in our communities. If you know someone who volunteers in Monmouthshire and deserves a big ‘Thank You’ please make a nomination.” Councillor Bob Greenland, Monmouthshire’s cabinet member with responsibility for innovation added: “Volunteers share thousands of hours across our county, improving people’s lives and the communities in which they live. The Volunteer Achievement Awards evening gives us the opportunity to recognise and highlight the work of volunteers and the impact they make.”
The evening’s event will be incorporated into the Pride of Monmouthshire Awards which also includes a celebration of the county’s young people and the successful Monmouthshire Sports Awards.
Make a nomination by logging on to www.prideofmonmouthshire.co.uk or calling the Monmouthshire Volunteer Centre on (01633) 241566. Winners and highly commended nominees with their guests will be invited to attend November’s awards ceremony.
