£200,000 Adventure Playground Set to Wow Visitors at Aberavon Beach

A new adventure playground costing over £200,000  is se to be built near a popular Neath Port Talbot beach over the coming months.
The attraction described as a “destination” playground  is being installed at Aberavon Beach in Port Talbot where it will feature a zip wire and 8.9m high play tower with climbing walls and a tube slide.
The site worth a total of £210,000 will also feature swings with an overhead ladder, a carousel and other play equipment using cash from Neath Port Talbot Council’s £4.25m “green up and clean up” fund.
The fund was designed and set up by the authority in order to improve the look of Neath Port Talbot’s local towns, valleys and villages, with money set aside for improved playgrounds, green spaces and public toilets.
The new Aberavon park will be made partly of recycled ocean waste on the site of the existing playground on the seafront, with the new centrepiece being an imposing “Ocean Giant” play tower, which will be surrounded by other nautical themed features in the shape of dolphins and shells.
A council spokesperson said: “The new adventure playground has been designed by and will be built by Kompan – a global leader in the installation of outdoor play and fitness sites.
“Being built on the site of an existing, dated, adventure playground on the Aberavon Seafront, the new attraction will help save the environment by being made of large amounts of ocean waste which includes nets, trawls and ropes.”
Cllr Scott Jones added: “Our vision for this attraction was to create a play area aimed at 6-12 year old’s centred around a real ‘wow factor’ centrepiece which would attract families from near and far, to visit this stunning location, and spend an extended period of time exploring and enjoying a new play experience.
“We are confident that our contractors Kompan, by adding specially tailored play equipment, in line with the requests in our tender, will make this a must visit destination adventure playground with the planned Ocean Giant tower providing the wow factor.”
Work is expected to begin on the site this week with the completion expected to take a further eight weeks. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
