Armistice Day Parade And Road Closures

On Remembrance Sunday, representatives of Neath Port Talbot Council will join other community leaders at parades across the borough. The events will remember and honour the brave servicemen and women who have sacrificed themselves to secure and protect our freedom. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The Mayor, Councillor Sheila Penry and Council Leader Ali Thomas OBE, will be in attendance for the Salute and March Past at the Gwyn Hall, Neath at 10.45 am and afterwards in St. David’s Church at 11.00am for the Remembrance Service. Following the Service there will be a parade to the Memorial Gates at The Gnoll Grounds for a Drumhead Service and Laying of Wreaths. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The Deputy Mayor, Councillor Janice Dudley will join the Parade at 10.15am from the Civic Centre, Port Talbot, to The Memorial Park, Taibach, for the Remembrance Service and Wreath Laying followed by the Salute and March Past. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

There is also a service at St. Peter’s Church Pontardawe at 9.30am, followed by a walk to the War Memorial for 11.00am where wreaths can be laid. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Rolling road closures will be in place across Neath (10am – 1pm), Port Talbot (10am –12:15pm) and Briton Ferry (3pm – 5pm) in order for the events to run smoothly. Motorists are being asked for their patience during these temporary road closures. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Councillor Ali Thomas OBE, Leader of Neath Port Talbot Council said: ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“Remembrance Sunday gives people the chance to commemorate the sacrifices made by those who have fallen on behalf of their country. I hope that people in Neath Port Talbot will join us at one of the local services being held around the borough on Sunday. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Neath Port Talbot Council will also be observing the two minute silence in all Council buildings at 11 o’clock on Friday 11th November, 2016. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Staff and Councillors will join millions of people across the UK to reflect and observe the two minute silence in remembrance of all those who lost their lives in the service of their country. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
