Door To Door Rogue Traders Warning For Neath Port Talbot Residents
Council Trading Standards watchdogs are warning residents to be wary of traders selling beds and furniture door to door. The warning comes after the department received information from the local police about men selling beds from white vans within the Afan Valley.
Head of Planning & Public Protection Nicola Pearce said:
“We would urge people to be extra vigilant. There have been reports of beds being sold by the same means in other parts of Wales. These beds do not comply with safety regulations.
“Also, the tradesmen must give you cancellation and cooling off rights in writing when selling to you on your doorstep. If the trader does not offer you these rights, we’d recommend that you do not purchase.”
If there is anything wrong with the bed you have purchased it will be almost impossible to seek compensation or a replacement.”
Sellers visiting consumers at their home are obliged to supply a notice of cancellation for most types of work and sales of goods. Almost every transaction is subject to a 14 day cooling off period for any work or goods more than £42 in value.
Homeowners and businesses are being urged not to deal with cold callers, if you feel you are victim to this kind of scam, call Citizens Advice Consumer Service 03454 04 05 06.
