Footgolf Kicks Off In Neath
Footgolf, one of Britain’s fastest growing sports, kicks off at Neath’s Gnoll Country Park, this coming Monday (22nd August).
Footgolf is played on a golf course using a size 5 football. The object of the game is to get the ball into the hole using only your feet in the fewest number of shots possible. Footgolf is a precision sport and combines the best of football and golf, two of the most popular sports in the world.
After meetings with UK Footgolf Association, the Council has introduced the sport at Gnoll Country Park in Neath making use of the existing nine hole golf course.
Golf enthusiasts will continue to use the course with Footgolf available at set times.
The holes will be created close to the existing greens so there will be very little change to the present course.
The authority will also join the Footgolf Association giving them access to their website to promote the course and organised competitions including the Welsh Open Championships.
The development is expected to bring more visitors to the park, increase the use of existing facilities including the café.
For nine holes it is £5 per adult and £3.75 for children.
Pupils from Alderman Davies School in Neath, Swansea City’s Lee Trundle and Leader of Council, Cllr. Ali Thomas OBE were the first to take a look at the new attraction.
Cllr Thomas said: “This is a growing sport and I am pleased we are able to bring it to the Gnoll.
“I believe this will be a considerable attraction to locals and visitors alike and make even greater use of what is a wonderful country park.”
