Neath social housing provider seeks public feedback for affordable homes plan in Croeserw

A Neath-based social housing provider has gone out to public consultation over plans to build affordable homes in the Afan Valley.
The early stage proposals could eventually see 25 new homes developed on vacant land off Pen-Y-Bryn and Menai Avenue in the village of Croeserw.
The Welsh housing association which currently manages more than 9,000 homes is now asking for feedback from members of the public before submitting a formal planning application to the council.
Plans say if given the go-ahead they would create 25 properties that would be 100% affordable, set across two separate parcels of land.
These would be made up of a mixture of semi-detached houses, one bedroom apartments, and an assisted living block that are “suitable for a variety of needs”.
One plot fronting Pen-y-Bryn is understood to have once contained homes that were demolished sometime around 2009, with the scheme looking to once again contribute to the street scene in the area.
Part of the report said: “The vision for the site was the provision of a high-quality residential development, providing affordable dwellings.
“The aim is to create a new development with its own unique sense of place but also one that pays due respect to its setting.”
It added: “The redevelopment of both sites will make a much-needed contribution to the street scene.
“The use of the larger assisted living block on site 2 will also provide a key building for the area but the natural topography of the site will ensure that the mass of the building will be placed against the hill and would not dominate the neighbourhood.”
