Port Talbot Letting Agency Steps Up For Local Community
A Port Talbot based entrepreneur who has launched a new business in the town is anxious to provide opportunities for others to build new business and for local communities to meet.
Sally Burris has launched her property management service – Step 2 – from premises in Forge Road but admits the building was too large for her needs.
Her solution is to open up sections of the property to local community groups or new businesses who may be struggling to afford somewhere to get their plans off the ground.
“I had been in business for some years in the Cardiff area but I always loved the Neath Port Talbot area and decided it was the perfect place to launch a new operation.
“Thanks to Neath Port Talbot Council the Forge Road property became available and it was perfect if a little too big,” she said.
Her solution is innovative. A large upstairs room is available for local groups looking for somewhere to meet and the only cost is the tea and coffee they might need.
In addition a further room has been converted into office accommodation where individuals trying to get their business off the ground can use the facilities available for a small fee.
“It has been fitted out with internet, power points and computer points so an individual can use it when they need to and hopefully it will help get other small businesses launched.”
“We really do love being in Forge Road, the people are warm and the community has a richness that we want to know better.
“Opening our doors and supporting community groups as a meeting place, or offering a desk and office resources to a new business or one that wishes to grow feels good to us.
“If there are any budding business women or men who are in need of a safe and welcoming place to share then I would urge them to get in touch.”
A spokesman for Neath Port Talbot Council said the authority owned the property and with a small capital outlay were able to make it available for Step 2.
The plans for the building were innovative and the authority felt this would be a good move for the local community as well as the property management business.
The Leader of Neath Port Talbot Council Cllr Ali Thomas OBE said: “Small businesses are important to Neath Port Talbot and I was delighted to learn of the initiative of this new business in making space available for other entrepreneurs to get their business underway.
“And with space available for small community groups as well this is a move that should be applauded by everyone.
“It is making excellent use of a property in the heart of Port Talbot,” he added.
