Residents Warned Against Email Scam

Neath Port Talbot Council is warning people to be on their guard against a scam email. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

A number of residents have reported receiving an email from ‘online.counciltax.uk’ about a Council Tax overpayment. The email requests their bank details so that the overpayment can be refunded. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

This email has not been sent by the Council and recipients should not respond to it. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Cllr Ali Thomas, Leader of Neath Port Talbot Council, said: ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“This scam has the potential to catch people out and I would remind residents to be vigilant of these crimes to avoid becoming a victim. If anyone receives an email of this nature, please delete it and under no circumstances provide your bank details.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
