Residents Warned Against Email Scam
Neath Port Talbot Council is warning people to be on their guard against a scam email.
A number of residents have reported receiving an email from ‘online.counciltax.uk’ about a Council Tax overpayment. The email requests their bank details so that the overpayment can be refunded.
This email has not been sent by the Council and recipients should not respond to it.
Cllr Ali Thomas, Leader of Neath Port Talbot Council, said:
“This scam has the potential to catch people out and I would remind residents to be vigilant of these crimes to avoid becoming a victim. If anyone receives an email of this nature, please delete it and under no circumstances provide your bank details.”
Anyone who is worried they may be being scammed or who is concerned about someone who they fear might be a victim should report it to the Citizens Advice Consumer Service on 03454 040506 (welsh language 03454 040505) or Action Fraud at http://www.actionfraud.police.uk/.
