Three By-Elections Scheduled for Neath Port Talbot Council Following Resignations and Deaths

Three by-elections are set to take place for Neath Port Talbot Council over the coming months following the death of two local members and the resignation of a third.
The polls come less than two years after the last local council elections which were held in 2022 where the county borough saw the control of the council pass from Labour for the first time in its history to a coalition group of Independents.
In the Briton Ferry East ward a by-election will take place on Thursday, February 15, following the resignation of the town’s Labour representative Cllr Chris James.
This will coincide with contested polls for two vacant town council positions on Briton Ferry town Council which are required because of two resignations from the local group.
On the same night a separate election will also take place for the Rhos electoral ward after the passing of a “valued member” of the Plaid Cymru Group, Cllr Marcia Spooner,  in November of 2023.
While a date has not yet been arranged a third by-election will also need to take place in the coming months after the death of a local councillor who was described as “the mother of the council,” Cllr Sheila Penry of Neath East.
The polling stations in use for voting on February 15 will be as follows:
