New Home For City Service Officially Opened
Newport’s Mayor Councillor Herbie Thomas has officially opened the new home of the city council’s mental health day service.
He was accompanied by Councillor Paul Cockeram, Newport City Council’s Cabinet Member for Adult and Community Services.
The refurbished centre in Brynglas boasts new facilities including an art studio, relaxation room, IT suite, kitchen and communal garden.
The site has extensive gardens which are ideal for a Newport-based charity which has also relocated to the site.
Growing Space will work closely with people using the centre, providing qualifications as well as hands-on experience in IT and gardening.
Councillor Cockeram said: “The council is committed to providing the best possible services to all those with eligible needs. I’m pleased that we have been able to offer these specialist services in a refurbished building with improved facilities.
“We are providing opportunities that will help people learn new skills so they can live independent, healthy lives.”
