Newport Cardboard Recycling Collections To Go Weekly

Wastesavers has announced that Newport residents will now have their cardboard collected weekly, starting from early June. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The charity, which collects recycling on behalf of the council, also announced it will be able to collect Tetra Pak (juice cartons) for the first time, and that a new heavy duty red sack will be introduced for plastics and cans. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The changes will be rolled out area by area with every household getting advance warning of when the new system will be affecting them. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“This is going to make recycling simpler, give residents the opportunity to recycle Tetra Pak for the first time and reduce litter problems” said Penny Goodwin, CEO of Wastesavers. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“We will also be changing what goes in each container due to the massive growth in plastic we have collected in recent years.” she continued, ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Collection days will remain the same for nearly all residents. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Exact details of the changes will be given to residents as their area comes onto the new system. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
