Boost For Local Sports Clubs
A community sports club open day held at Milford Haven Leisure Centre in October was so successful that nearly 30 children have gone on to join local sports clubs.
The open day was organised by the Sport Pembrokeshire and Leisure Pembrokeshire – Pembrokeshire County Council’s sport development and leisure services.
More than 200 children attended with their parents and tried out a variety of different sports. The local sports clubs in attendance included Neyland Football Club, Pembrokeshire Disabled Bowlers, Dale Sailing Club, Milford Golf Club, Milford Squash Club, FF Dancers, Milford Karate, Milford Ladies Hockey club, Milford Rugby and Milford Tennis Club.
The day also resulted in a new partnership between Neyland Football club, Sport Pembrokeshire and Milford Leisure Centre, which are offering a programme of weekly activities for girls aged between 7 and 11. The sessions are currently running at capacity with 18-20 girls attending weekly.
A similar launch event held in Pembroke in June attracted 180 children and local clubs also benefitted from boosted junior membership – with the girls sessions regularly attended by an average of 20 girls.
