Cleddau Reach Pupils Visit County Hall
Pupils from Cleddau Reach VC Primary School in Llangwm enjoyed an insight into local government this week.
The children from Year 5 toured County Hall in Haverfordwest and participated in a question and answer session in the Council Chamber, as part of their work on democracy.
The tour was led by the Chairman of Pembrokeshire County Council Cllr Tony Brinsden, and local County Councillor Michael John, who is also a school governor.
The pupils were also accompanied by Deputy Headteacher Sharon Woodward and LSAs Lisa Brock and Wendy Tamilia.
They visited various departments before listening to a talk about the old Llangwm School by Mary Robinson from Pembrokeshire Archives, who read the pupils extracts from the headteacher’s logbooks dating from the early 20th century.
The class then took part in a lively discussion with Cllr Tony Brinsden and Cllr John in the Chamber, with questions ranging from ‘What’s been your most stressful debate?’ to ‘Is your job very hard?’
Mrs Woodward said the trip was a ‘fantastic experience’, and a good opportunity for the pupils to find out more about how democracy works locally.
Next week, the pupils will be learning about the next tier of government in a visit to the Senedd in Cardiff.
