Consultation On Council Tax Reduction Scheme
Pembrokeshire County Council has launched a consultation on a draft new council tax reduction scheme.
The current scheme will come to an end in March 2017, and a new one will be in place by 1st April 2017.
The new scheme is a national one, proposed by the Welsh Government, which has to be adopted by all local authorities in Wales.
Under the scheme, it is proposed that those eligible for council tax support will continue to receive benefit at a maximum level of 100%.
The Welsh Government has frozen the amount of money that it will pay to local authorities to help support schemes between April 2017 and March 2018.
It should be noted that there will not be any changes to the scheme operated in the current financial year but the Council is still obliged to consult on the proposals.
Members of the public in Pembrokeshire are being asked to give their views on the scheme, which also includes proposals from Pembrokeshire County Council to use its discretion to allow the following elements:
- Backdating of benefit
- Extending benefit payments,
- The exclusion of war widow and war disablement pensions from calculations
- Annual changes to social security benefits, personal allowances, premiums and non-dependant deductions
The consultation is called ‘Council Tax Reduction Scheme 2017-18′ and can be found at www.pembrokeshire.gov.uk/haveyoursay.
Alternatively please telephone the Customer Contact Centre on 01437 764551 to request a hard copy to be posted to you.
The deadline for responses is Monday 5th December 2016.
