Extra – get paid to play

Pembrokeshire Leisure, in collaboration with Communities First and the Derwen NHS Trust, are launching a new initiative designed to get teenagers active. The programme, which is being called EXTRA, will reward teenagers for attending group exercise classes. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Qualifying participants, based on current activity levels and physical condition, will get a massive 78% discount on current prices as well as receiving vouchers for every ten sessions they attend. Sessions on offer will include Dance, Yoga, Parkour, Cycling and Roller Discos. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

After attending ten sessions, each participant will receive a £5 voucher for them to spend on themselves as well as a £5 voucher for their family to spend in food stores. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Cabinet Spokesperson for Culture, Sport and Leisure, Councillor Elwyn Morse believes many young people will benefit from the scheme. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“We’re all very excited about this pilot as it is the first of its kind and should see a substantial increase in the health and well-being of quite a few of our young residents” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

His views are echoed by Pembroke Leisure Centre manager Darren Bowen. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
