Extra Hours Confirmed At St Davids Library
Following a successful trial, St Davids Library is set to open permanently on Saturday mornings – thanks to its dedicated team of volunteers.
Based in the City Hall, the library will remain open on Saturdays between 10am and 12noon, in addition to its regular hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays which are run by library staff.
Cllr Elwyn Morse, Cabinet Member for Culture, Sport and Leisure, said he was delighted with the arrangements.
“The six-month trial was very popular with the local community, and so we are delighted to confirm that Saturday openings are here to stay,” he said.
“We are very grateful to the volunteers and it is because of their enthusiasm and commitment that we can continue to provide this service.
“The County Council is also very appreciative of the support from St Davids City Council in enabling us to provide this important community resource.”
He said weekend hours are especially useful for people who are unable to visit the library during the week, including schoolchildren, students and those in full-time work.
“I would also like to encourage local people and visitors to continue to make the most of the library,” he added.
St Davids Library – which is the smallest library in Pembrokeshire – provides a selection of fiction and non-fiction books, DVDs, large-print and audio books, and IT services.
Cultural Services are recruiting more volunteers to fulfil the role of opening the library on Saturday mornings.
