An event has been held at Milford Haven Leisure Centre to find out what matters the most to people with learning disabilities who live in Pembrokeshire. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Approximately 130 people attended the event, which included a range of workshops using art, theatre, photography and discussion. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“The things people told us that mattered most to them are their families and communities, having equal opportunity to learn and to socialise, and access to leisure and sports activities,” said Cllr Simon Hancock, Learning Disabilities Champion. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The feedback gathered at the event will be used to help shape Pembrokeshire’s draft Learning Disabilities Strategy which will have the service-user voice as the central driving force. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The strategy will be put into action by Pembrokeshire County Council, Hywel Dda University Health Board, PAVS (Pembrokeshire Association of Voluntary Services) and local communities to ensure that all organisations work together to improve the quality of life for people with learning disabilities. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

An engagement session will be held on Wednesday, May 11th 2016 for parents, unpaid carers or family members to have an opportunity to contribute. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
