Gold Award For Tenby Infants

Tenby VC Infants School has been presented with a Gold Sustainable Schools Award. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Pembrokeshire County Councillor Huw George presented pupils with the award at a special assembly on Tuesday morning. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The award is the culmination of several years work by staff and pupils at the school which is one of 19 in the county holding a Gold award. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Councillor George, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Environmental and Regulatory Services, told the assembly he was very impressed with all their hard work and their commitment to the scheme. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Headteacher, Gill John, said: “I’m very proud that we’ve completed the set of trees on the Sustainable Schools trophy, and that pupils and staff will take the skills to their new schools”. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The school was recently assessed on Energy and Community Citizenship to gain their award. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Pupils learned about these topics during lessons and also took part in a variety of projects. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

This included working with Tenby Town Council to tidy up around the play-park and part of North Beach while members of the Eco Warriors Club worked with teachers to have a ‘No Electric Day’ at the school. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

This raised awareness of what a school day without gadgets is like and the importance of saving energy. The Eco Warriors have shared their idea with other schools in the county who are invited to hold their own ‘No Electric Day’ during the week beginning June 13th. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
