New Director for Children and Schools

Pembrokeshire County Council has appointed Kate Evan-Hughes as the new Director for Children and Schools. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

It follows final interviews for the post yesterday (Tuesday) by the County Council’s Senior Staff Committee. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Mrs Evan-Hughes became Interim Director for Children and Schools in late 2014, following the departure of the previous Director Jake Morgan. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Prior to that, she was Pembrokeshire County Council’s Head of Education. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Brought up in Welshpool, Mrs Evan-Hughes began her career in education as a maths and ICT teacher in England before becoming a Headteacher at Llandogo Primary School in Monmouthshire. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

From there she moved on to become a Principal School Improvement Advisor and then Assistant Head of Education at Newport City Council. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

She studied for a degree in Economic History at Swansea University and has a MA in Special Educational Needs from the Open University as well as a PGCE. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
