Pembrokeshire County Council’s school meals service has launched a new winter menu for local primary schools. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

New dishes on the menu include chicken noodle medley, salmon and sweet potato fishcakes, and vegetarian noodles – with desserts including banoffee waffles, and pancakes with fruit and ice cream. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“We are delighted to introduce our delicious winter menu,” said Nia Davies, Nutritional and Systems Manager. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“There are some exciting new choices as well as the traditional favourites such as roast dinners and lasagne with garlic bread.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The menu will run on a three-week cycle and costs £2.15 a day for infants, and £2.25 for juniors. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“We aim to use quality products which are locally sourced wherever possible,” continued Nia. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“Eight out of our nine suppliers are based in Pembrokeshire, with our sausages and grills purchased from Preseli Gold in Fishguard and our meat from Andrew Rees and Sons in Narberth.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Earlier this year, the school meals service introduced a 10% discount for parents or guardians of primary school children who have school dinners for 12 months, over a rolling period. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The discount applies if parents or guardians commit to purchasing meals every school day, and the cost is spread over 12 months via direct debit. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

A family discount has also been introduced of 50p per child, per meal, for families with three or more children. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

For more details on the discounts, please contact the school meals service on 01437 775943. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
