Pembrokeshire Libraries In Good Shape
The overall picture of Pembrokeshire’s library service is positive, according to an annual assessment report by the Welsh Government.
The report looks at several aspects of the service in detail, including the quality of service provided and the positive impact of libraries on the community.
It said Pembrokeshire is continuing to meet all of the 18 core entitlements in full – the core services which the public can expect from libraries.
“Of the seven quality indicators which have targets, Pembrokeshire achieved five in full and two in part,” stated the report.
“The overall picture remains positive, with some areas of improvement noted in a climate of budget constraints.”
It went on to say that Pembrokeshire achieved high scores in its impact survey and provided three outstanding impact cases studies which showed the real difference the library service makes.
Challenges were also noted, with the report stating: “…the impact of the budget cuts can be seen in several areas of the return, particularly in falling levels of use.”
Cllr Elwyn Morse, Cabinet Member for Culture, Sport and Leisure, said: “As the cuts bite deeper it gets ever more challenging to perform well against external assessments.
“I take my hat off to all the staff and volunteers in the Library Service who despite having to make big changes to provision, have still managed to provide excellent services.
“I’m particularly pleased to see that the positive impact that libraries have on people’s lives has been recognised. They really do make a difference.”
