Plans Submitted to Expand Pembrokeshire Town-Centre Pharmacy Into Former Flat
Plans have been lodged to expand a Pembrokeshire town-centre pharmacy into a former flat and add healthcare facilities.
Mendus Pharmacy, through agent Hayston Developments & Planning Ltd, has applied to Pembrokeshire County Council to turn the residential flat at 31 Main Street, Pembroke, into healthcare facilities and a staff room.
Mendus Pharmacy is housed in a Grade II-listed Georgian building in a terrace within the town’s conservation area.
A supporting statement accompanying the application says the proposed change of use is to use a former two-storey residential flat that forms the rear element of the property which is occupied in the main by Mendus Pharmacy.
It says the pharmacy’s layout and the external appearance of both buildings would remain unchanged, so listed-building consent would not be needed.
“The doors to the flat and to the pharmacy from the footway are close to each other and will remain so. Thus, should this application be approved and implemented any person seeking a consultation would enter Mendus Pharmacy from Main Street, exit by the rear door into the passageway then immediately enter a separate door which would open into a waiting area.
“After a consultation / treatment the person could exit either to the car park to the rear or enter Mendus Pharmacy and rejoin Main Street.”
It adds: “The proposed internal changes from a two-storey flat to additional health service centre are minimal at ground floor level. On the first floor, additional walls will be put in place to create a separate treatment room, a stock room and a staff room.”
It goes on to say: “The close proximity of the site to the public car park will be of benefit to visitors to the enhanced pharmacy, particularly so if visitors have reduced mobility.”
County planners will consider the application at a later date.
