Records Tumble At Weightlifting Event
After a break of 27 years, the Pembrokeshire Schools weightlifting championships recently returned to Sir Thomas Picton School in Haverfordwest.
An inter-school event, it was open to all those under 17 and to guest lifters although they could not medal.
The 35 competitors included three guests and six of the County’s eight secondary schools – plus Grove primary school in Pembroke – participated along with Pembrokeshire College.
Ysgol Bro Gwaun was the winning school with 51 points, with runners-up Sir Thomas Picton finishing on 24 points and Pembroke third with 19 points.
Other placings were: Milford 14 points; Greenhill and Grove both10; Tasker-Milward 8 and Pembrokeshire College 5.
Highlights of the event were potential Welsh records lifts by two competitors, Jack Thomas and Chloe Hood
Jack lifted in the under 13s section while Chloe set possible records in the under 15, 16, 17 and 18 categories.
The records have yet to be officially confirmed.
The technical officials on the day were: Steve Donovan, Darren Rogers, Helena Madan and Alex John (all Haverfordwest) Ania Negele, and Josh Bellow (Swansea); Brittany Thomas (Pembroke) and Tim Jackson, Tenby.
Other volunteers were: Niamh Roach, Chloe Hood, Dylan Williamson, Jay Rogers and Josh Yau.
