Routes To Opportunity Welcomed
More young people in Milford Haven are set to get an experience of vocational learning, thanks to a new project.
‘Routes to Opportunity’, launched today (Wednesday) will give local youngsters some ‘hands on’ work experience in a variety of different placements.
Aimed toward those aged between 16 and 25, the project is run by Milford Youth Matters and Pembrokeshire Youth Service, at Milford Haven Youth Centre
Participants will have a choice of different vocational experiences, including catering, woodwork, gardening, and leisure.
The programme is funded by the National Lottery through the Big Lottery Fund.
Community Youth Worker Nick Hudd said the goal was to make it easier for young people to find work or go into further education or training.
“Both our organisations regularly facilitate a range of initiatives aimed at helping young people develop skills for the future. Greater partnership working between Pembrokeshire Youth Services and Milford Youth Matters continues to help us expand the services we offer.”
Sian Rendell, Milford Youth Matters Project Coordinator, believes partnership working helps young people develop and makes them active members of their community.
“This is an exciting opportunity for youngsters in Milford Haven and they will learn a lot from it.
“Emphasis is placed on working with local businesses, organisations and other training providers to ensure young people benefit from the vast range of experience and knowledge available.”
