Spittal Pupils Visit County Hall
Pupils from Spittal School visited County Hall on Monday to learn more about the Council and the democratic process
As guests of the Authority’s Chairman Councillor Wynne Evans, the pupils met with various departments throughout the building and asked many probing questions of staff and councillors.
Highlight of the visit was a chance for the pupils to have a go at calling ‘Order’ within the council chamber as they banged the iconic Gavel used by the Chairman at meetings three times whilst acting out part of Councillor Evans’ role within the chamber..
“All of the pupils really enjoyed it,” said teacher Miss Kate Dow who accompanied the children alongside the school’s secretary Mrs Susan France. “Even leading up to the visit where we discussed the questions we were going to ask, they were all really engaged about what the visit would hold.”
County Council Chairman, Councillor Wynne Evans was asked a range of questions such as how long do meetings go on for and how do you control them when they get heated?
Miss Dow added. “On behalf of the pupils and the school, I’d like to thank Councillor Evans for arranging the trip. I’m sure all of us took a lot from it and learnt a lot as a result.”
