St Florence School Take A Tour!
Pupils from St Florence Church in Wales VC School enjoyed a morning at County Hall this week, thanks to an invitation from Cllr Wynne Evans, Chairman of Pembrokeshire County Council.
The pupils met staff from various departments before a lively question and answer session in the Council Chamber, with pupils putting queries to both the Chairman and Councillor Phil Kidney of Manorbier.
“The children had many intelligent questions about the council and about what sort of discussions and debates we have,” said Cllr Wynne Evans.
“They were also particularly interested in Ironman as some of their parents had taken part, and several of the children have participated in Ironkids. The school is working on putting together their own Ironman event in the village and it was very interesting for us to hear about that.”
The children also had a talk from Joe Welch, food officer at Pembrokeshire County Council and manager of Haverfordwest Farmers Market.
Joe talked about the variety of food and drink producers in Pembrokeshire, and festivals supported by the County Council, including Pembrokeshire Fish Week. She also spoke about the Pembrokeshire Produce Mark, and the farmers market in Haverfordwest.
The children asked her questions about a range of issues including where you can buy fresh fish in the county and how they could get more fresh fish on the menu in their school.
The headteacher of St Florence VC School, Mrs Julie Davies, said: “We had a wonderful morning, the children have thoroughly enjoyed themselves and learnt a great deal.”
