Standing Ovation For Young Musicians!
Pupils from Pembrokeshire’s County Training Orchestra and the County’s Primary Area Ensembles received a standing ovation after their very well-received Christmas concert on Friday (2nd December).
The children gave a wonderful performance of ‘The Grinch’, adapted by peripatetic music teacher Mrs Verity Evans and narrated by Music Co-ordinator Mrs Sarah Benbow.
It was the first time that the Primary Area Ensembles – consisting of 140 young musicians from different primary schools in Pembrokeshire – had joined the County Training Orchestra for a concert.
The primary children had practised in their area orchestras and bands weekly throughout the autumn term, with their one and only combined rehearsal taking place the afternoon before the concert.
They were conducted by Mrs Philippa Roberts, Music Co-ordinator who thanked all the children for their hard work.
The Training Orchestra also gave fantastic performances of ‘Fiddle Dance’, ‘The Polar Express’ and several carols. They were conducted by peripatetic music teacher Mrs Joanne Underwood, and the leader of the orchestra was Eve Mathias.
Also much appreciated were the County Jazz Band who performed for members of the audience as they arrived and took their seats.
“The standing ovation was very well deserved, and testament to the hard work put in by all the pupils and peripatetic music staff,” said Ben Field, manager of Pembrokeshire County Council’s music service.
The concert took place at Sir Thomas Picton school in Haverfordwest.
