‘The Island Dwellers’
The fascinating history of the people who have lived on Skokholm and Skomer Islands will be the subject of a talk at Pembroke Dock Library on March 23rd by David Saunders MBE.
David, who became the first warden of Skomer Island in 1960, has spent a lifetime in wildlife conservation for which he was awarded a MBE in 2003.
He will talk about the earliest inhabitants who arrived on foot, Iron Age settlers and Norse adventurers, the medieval rat-catchers and Tudor nobility, the great farming era of the 19th century and the changes of the past hundred years.
David writes regularly for ‘Bird Watching’ magazine and ‘Natur Cymru’ and has published a number of books including the ‘RSPB Guide to British Birds’.
The talk, entitled ‘The Island Dwellers’, will start at 7pm on Wednesday 23rd March.
The event is free to attend and no booking is required.
