Winners of Art Competition Announced

The winners of a county-wide Art Challenge run by Pembrokeshire County Council have been announced by the Authority’s Chief Executive Ian Westley at County Hall. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The challenge, run through primary and secondary schools, invited children to enter a work of art based on the theme ‘The Pembrokeshire I (or we) see.’ ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Children could choose one of five categories ranging from history to nature, the coast and sea, industries or communities. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Morgen John and Jake Brown of Haverfordwest VC school won the community and history category respectively, while Kristers Kudjavcevs and Lilly Jo Thomas from Spittal VC School won the industry and nature classes. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Luke Rhoda from Stepping Stones Learning Resource Centre was successful in the coast and sea category. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The entries were judged by a panel consisting of Ian Westley, Kate Evan-Hughes, Director for Children and Schools, Cllr Sue Perkins, Cabinet Member for Education and Safeguarding, and Cllr Jamie Adams, Leader. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“It was difficult to try and pick the winners from the hundreds of entries we received, yet I felt the winning pieces captured our county in an imaginative and varied way,” said Ian Westley. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“It’s clear our schools are full of talented youngsters and I would urge the public to come and see their work in the exhibition at County Hall.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

An exhibition of all the entries is on display in the upstairs reception area of County Hall until 11th March and can be viewed from 9am until 6pm. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Following the exhibition, the winning pieces will be permanently displayed in Mr Westley’s office and the Chairman’s room, and several additional entries will be on display around County Hall. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
