Young People In Pembrokeshire Have Had A Taste Of Life At University
Pembrokeshire Youth Service’s Targeted Youth Team were fortunate enough to be part of a new initiative funded by University of Wales Trinity Saint David, which enables young people not currently in education, employment or training to experience university life.
The Targeted Youth Team identified a cluster of young people with potential but not the confidence to explore further and higher education opportunities and immersed them into what being a student at University would be like.
The residential project, split between Lampeter and Swansea campuses, was hosted by the Reaching Wider Initiative Team and was an opportunity for young people to sample some lectures and discuss how they would go about applying for a place on a Higher Education course.
Participants had the chance to learn about the BA Youth & Community Programme, BA Social & Education Studies, BA Photography, BA Mechanical Engineers and the BA International Hotel Management and Swansea Business School.
Along with these taster lectures, Student Services provided a comprehensive workshop, covering all aspects of finances available during potential studies. It also looked at what costs would be incurred whilst studying full-time, part-time, living in or living out of campus and what grants and loans are available for students.
If you would like to get in touch with the Targeted Youth Team for future opportunities please contact them on 01437 775230 or 776038.
Students from Pembrokeshire enjoyed lectures and workshops at Swansea and Lampeter universities.
