A Great Day Out!

In glorious summer sunshine, hundreds of people attended the Abercynon Community Fun Day, hosted by Rhondda Cynon Taf Mayor, Cllr Rhys Lewis. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Both Abercynon Park and Abercynon Sports Centre were a hive of activity as people of all ages enjoyed all the activities. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Abercynon’s newly-refurbished War Memorial Paddling Poolwas also open as part of the community fun day to help raise funds for the Mayor of Rhondda Cynon Taf’s Charity Appeal. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Community group, Action for Abercynon War Memorial Paddling Pool re-opened Abercynon Paddling Pool last summer thanks to the help of local volunteers and community members, as well as support from Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s RCT Together initiative. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Entertainment and attractions at the Abercynon Community Fun Day included a bouncy castle, childrens’ rides and crazy golf as well as various stalls such as tin can alley, darts for prizes and much more. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Taster sessions and classes were also held at the newly-refurbished Abercynon Sports Centre, showcasing the new facilities as part of the Council’s £1.7m investment in leisure. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The brand-new gym at Abercynon Sports Centre has doubled its size and includes 80 top-of-the-range stations, a new multi-purpose room and a dedicated spin room. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

All monies raised on the day will go to the Mayor’s Charity Appeal, this year supporting MIND – Merthyr and the Valleys; Action for Children; New Horizons; ADREF; Giving To Pink. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
