A New Chapter

Works begins on Monday (March 7) to demolish Pontypridd Day Centre – while former users of the centre enjoy their access to new provision in the area. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council made the decision last year to close and demolish Pontypridd Day Centre, which is situated in the grounds of Ynysangharad War Memorial Park, subject to appropriate, alternative provision for service users being found. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The decision was made due to significant maintenance and accessibility issues at the day centre. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Following this decision, alternative provision has now been found in the locality, which includes a meals service provided at the Muni. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

This service has proven to be popular with former users of Pontypridd Day Centre, with numbers accessing the service having increased in recent weeks. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Visitors to Ynysangharad War Memorial Park will not be affected by the works, which are expected to be completed by March 18, but all are reminded it is a demolition site and no one should attempt to enter it. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
