Abercynon Community Fun Day
The Abercynon Community Fun Day, as part of the Mayor’s Civic Saturday, takes place at Abercynon Park and Abercynon Sports Centre this weekend (Saturday, August 13).
Abercynon Park and Abercynon War Memorial Paddling Poolwill be open from 11am until 5pm to host a community fun day to help raise funds for the Mayor of Rhondda Cynon Taf, Councillor Rhys Lewis’ Charity Appeal.
The fun-filled family day promises to be great fun, with something for everyone to enjoy – including a dip in the newly-refurbished, community run, paddling pool.
Community group, Action for Abercynon War Memorial Paddling Pool re-opened Abercynon Paddling Pool last summer through the Council’s RCT Together initiative and thanks to the help of local volunteers and community members..
The event will include children’s entertainment including a bouncy castle, as well as various stalls such as tin can alley, darts for prizes and much more.
Mayor of Rhondda Cynon Taf, Cllr Rhys Lewis, said: “I am delighted to host this fun-filled event for everyone to enjoy.
“During my year in office as Mayor I was keen to put on an event which the whole community could join in to mark my inauguration as Mayor and I am looking forward to welcoming both young and old to this weekend’s Community Fun Day.
“I hope that residents will come along and enjoy all that is on offer, have great fun as well as raising money for charity.”
The role of Mayor is a far-reaching one, of which raising charity funds is just a part.
As the First Citizen of the County Borough, Mayor, Councillor Rhys Lewis will support a number of civic events, including the Council’s important support for Armed Forces Day, Armistice Day and more.

- Action for Children
- New Horizons
- ADREF
- Giving To Pink
