BBC Radio Wales Live From Lido Ponty

Television and radio star Wynne Evans has made a welcome return to Lido Ponty, the National Lido of Wales, to broadcast his daily radio show from the open-air venue. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Having visted earlier this year to train to become a ‘Lido Lifeguard as part of his BBC Radio Wales programme, Wynne loved it so much he decided to come back! ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

He presented his radio show live from poolside from 11am until 1pm, chatting to visitors and staff and also had a go at cooking at our Waterside Café, presenting them with an official Wynne Evans Grub Club sticker. during the two-hour programme he also took part in the water activities – even going inside the giant Zorbing Wheel fully clothed! ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Cllr Ann Crimmings, Cabinet Member for Environment, Leisure and Culture, who took part in the show, said: “We were delighted to welcome Wynne Evans back to Lido Ponty – he certainly made a splash the last time he was with us. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“The sun was shining and everyone at poolside enjoyed being a part of his radio show. It was great having him back with us. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“Wynne attracts a large audience every weekday during his radio show and this has been an amazing opportunity for us to tell all of his listeners’ about what we offer at the National Lido of Wales. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“We are having an amazing summer season and even welcomed, live on the radio show, our 75,000th visitor since we opened exactly a year ago this month. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
