Beating The Bounds Event Takes Place In Llantrisant
The traditional Beating the Bounds event takes place in Llantrisant this summer, and Rhondda Cynon Taf Council is delighted to be providing funding support.
The seven-mile boundary walk of the ancient borough of Llantrisant dates back 660 years and attracts more than 10,000 people to the town. The event will take place in June.
Organised by Llantrisant Town Trust, with the support of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and Llantrisant Community Council, Beating the Bounds takes place every seven years and is one of the oldest community traditions in Wales.
Started in 1346 following the presentation of charter by the Lord of Glamorgan to create Freemen of Llantrisant, the family event will include such attractions as street entertainment, concerts, banquets, a children’s fairground and various stalls.
Cllr Maureen Webber, Deputy Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, said: “The Council is delighted to be supporting Beating the Bounds, a prestigious event that is eagerly awaited every seven years.
“It is a huge event which upholds a tradition going back over 650 years, and one which attracts thousands to the town and wider area providing a significant boost to the local economy.”
Dean Powell, Clerk to Llantrisant Town Trust, added: “We are extremely grateful to Rhondda Cynon Taf Council for their generous support of Beating the Bounds.
“Thanks to their contribution along with the funds already raised over the past year we can now provide a wide range of entertainment and activities in the town, which will boost the local economy and provide a weekend to remember for residents and visitors alike.”
Beating the Bounds consists of ceremony which includes a seven-mile march, followed by children being “bounced” on one of the town’s ancient boundary stones.
Beating the Bounds takes place in Llantrisant on June 14-18.
