Education Investment In Tonyrefail

New images show the transformation which is set to take place to education facilities in Tonyrefail. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Detailed proposals will shortly be submitted for planning consideration to take forward the £44.2M investment in new and improved primary and secondary school facilities in Tonyrefail. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

County Borough Councillor Eudine Hanagan, Cabinet Member for Education and Skills and local Councillor for Tonyrefail West, said: “These latest images demonstrate the massive transformation which is set to take place at Tonyrefail Comprehensive. Thanks to investment from the Council and Welsh Government, a new 21st Century, 3-19 school will be built for primary and secondary school pupils on the site of the current comprehensive. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“This investment, as the images clearly demonstrate, will deliver a state of the art of art learning environment for young people in Tonyrefail. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“By delivering this investment in schools in Tonyrefail we are ensuring young people have access to the very best learning opportunities. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“Additional investment has been secured, to respond to views expressed during the consultation on the wider Rhondda Schools proposals, which will see the new school comprise of distinct primary and secondary learning facilities but with all the educational benefits of a 3-19 school. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“Not only is this investment good news for education, it will provide a major boost to the local economy.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Following the planning process, construction will begin later this year with completion in 2018. New governing body arrangements for this new school will shortly take place. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The new educational facilities planned for Tonyrefail form part of the wider £85million investment in education in Rhondda and Tonyrefail which is being supported by the Welsh Government’s 21st Century Schools Programme. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

This investment includes: ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

– A new 3-19 school for Tonyrefail ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

– Relocating YGG Tonyrefail to a refurbished and modern primary school site ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

– New and refurbished buildings at Porth and Tonypandy Secondary Schools sites to create two 3-16 schools ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

– Extending, remodelling and refurbishing of YGG Llwyncelyn ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

– 21st Century improvements to a number of other schools in the area, including Treorchy Primary and the creation of a new school to replace Cymmer Infants’ and Junior Schools ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
