Free Heart Screening For The Young
Welsh Hearts are holding heart screening sessions for young people at Lido Ponty, the National Lido of Wales, this weekend.
12 young people die each week across the UK from an undiagnosed heart condition – that’s 12 too many.
It is Welsh Hearts’ mission to help protect and promote the heart health of young people in Wales.
Many people still associate heart disease and heart attacks with older people, however this is sadly not the case. A simple ECG (electrocardiogram) will identify most cardiac abnormalities so that conditions can be managed.
Screening sessions can make a massive difference and ultimatelyl save lives.
Cllr Ann Crimmings, Cabinet Member for the Environment, Leisure and Culture, said: “’We are delighted that Lido Ponty, the National Lido of Wales, is hosting Welsh Hearts for this vital community initiative.
“We already work with this very worthwhile cause on the RCT100 Dai Fib Appeal, so it follows that we would continue to provide support.”
Sharon Owen, Charity Director for Welsh Hearts, said: ‘We are so grateful for the fantastic, continued support that Rhondda Cynon Taf Council has shown Welsh Hearts. It is only because of this that we can fund initiatives like this and continue to save lives in Wales.”
The FREE heart screening sessions take place at Lido Ponty, The National Lido of Wales, on Saturday, February 20. The sessions are aimed at young people aged 14-35.
Lido Ponty, the National Lido of Wales is situated at Ynysangharad War Memorial Park, Pontypridd, CF37 4PE. It is set to re-open to the public on Good Friday (March 25) until Sunday, April 10. It will then be open fully for the summer season 2016 from Saturday, May 28, until Sunday, September 11.
