Gardeners across Rhondda Cynon Taf are breaking recycling records as Rhondda Cynon Taf Council collects almost 1000 tonnes of green waste in just one month! ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Sunshine and lots of rain, equals the perfect recipe for blooming marvellous gardening and residents across the County Borough are taking full advantage of the FREE weekly green waste collection service. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

In June the Council collected 1047 tonnes of garden waste – that’s the equivalent weight of 9803 6×4 garden sheds. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

From cuttings to shrubs, flowers to twigs, you can recycle all garden green waste. All you need to do is place the garden green waste in to your normal clear recycling bags and leave it at the kerbside on your normal collection day. All the Council asks is that you keep it separate from your other recycling as garden waste is recycled differently. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Please ensure that you remove all earth/soil, rubble and stones from your green waste as we are currently unable to recycle these as part of your garden waste. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Last year the Council collected 6369 tonnes of garden waste which was composted and turned in to soil that can be re-used across the County Borough and beyond. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Councillor Ann Crimmings, Cabinet Member for Environment, Leisure & Culture, said: “More and more residents of Rhondda Cynon Taf are taking advantage of our fantastic weekly kerbside recycling collection service. It is great that so many of our residents are enthusiastic about our environment. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“I urge all our residents who are not currently recycling to make the change to your habits and join your neighbours and friends and make a difference to our environment. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“We make the service as user-friendly as possible and . together we can make our County Borough a cleaner, greener place to live, work and visit.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

From January 2015 green waste has been collected by a separate vehicle, but still takes place on the same day as food and dry recycling collections. This is being carried out to help reduce contamination of garden/green waste. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

As we are currently experiencing a high demand for the service, there could be a delay in collections, please leave at the collection point and it will be collected as soon as possible. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Please note Council are unable to collect old or damaged sheds, patio sets and children’s outdoor toys at the kerbside. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

However these can be taken to one of the seven Community Recycling Centres where they can be recycled from there. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The centres are based in the following locations – ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

  • North Road, Ferndale, CF43 4RS
  • Ty Amgen CRC, Llwydcoed, Aberdare, CF44 0BX
  • Dinas Amenity Site, Cymmer Road, Dinas, CF39 9BL
  • Ty Glantaf, Taffs Fall Road, Treforest Industrial Estate, CF37 5TT

  • Treherbert Industrial Estate, Treherbert, CF42 5HZ
  • Llantrisant 100% Recycling Centre, Pant-Y-Brad Road off Heol-Y Sarn, Llantrisant Industrial Estate, CF72 8YT

All of these facilities will cater for all recycling needs, including white goods, cardboard, clothing, plastics, light fittings, wood, glass, metal, engine oil, fluorescent tubes, plasterboards, old toys, paint, tyres, old tv’s and lots more. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
