Highways Improvements Around Rhondda Heritage Park
The main road leading to Rhondda Heritage Park is set for improvement as part of the Council’s ongoing commitment to its highways investment programme.
Resurfacing work is set to be carried out at Coedcae Road, Trehafod – the main thoroughfare for visitors to the Council’s family tourist attraction.
This works forms part of the Council’s continued highways improvement works across the County Borough, with over £53m being invested since 2011.
The resurfacing work at Coedcae Road, Trehafod, is due to start on Monday, September 12 and is expected to last six days.
A temporary traffic management system will be in place from the roundabout, just off the A4058.
Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, Cllr Andrew Morgan, who is also responsible for Highways, said: “Coedcae Road is a well-used route into the village of Trehafod, one which is used daily by local people and also visitors to the Rhondda Heritage Park and the nearby, privately-owned Rhondda Heritage Park Hotel.
“This investment is part of the wider £23m being put into Highways Improvements, Infrastructure and Strategic Projects across RCT as part of the £200m RCTinvest programme over the next three years.
“This investment will also complement the £500k investment in Rhondda Heritage Park recently agreed by Cabinet which will see a number of improvements made to the visitor experience.”
This work once again demonstrates the Council’s commitment to maintaining and improving its roads for the benefit of all residents, businesses and visitors.
Motorists are advised of anticipated delays in the area which will be kept to a minimum. There is also an alternative route available from the south into the village of Trehafod, via Trehafod Road, just off the A4058.
Rhondda Heritage Park attracts thousands of visitors each year. Among its main attractions is the Energy Zone childrens’ outdoor play area, the Underground Tour Experience, with real-life miners as tour guides, as well as the café and traditional Welsh Gift Shop.
Original features at Rhondda Heritage Park, the former Lewis Merthyr Colliery, include the Pithead Gear, Trefor Winding House, the Colliery Courtyard and the Bertie Winding House.
The Cabinet have recently approved significant investment of £500k for improvements and upgrades to the Rhondda Heritage Park visitor experience.
