Love Where You Live Awards 2016
Environmental crusaders have been recognised and rewarded thanks to Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s highly acclaimed Love Where You Live Awards 2016.
People who care so much about the County Borough have been officially recognised at the annual awards, which are now in their 8th year.
The awards aim to celebrate and congratulate the people in Rhondda Cynon Taf who go above and beyond to protect our environment – ensuring that our County Borough is a clean, green place to live, work and visit.
From sprucing up their streets, to picking up litter and supporting all of the Council’s kerbside recycling services, a number of people were rewarded for a wide range of environmental projects and inspiring activities.
The event once again proved to be a huge success with 8 individuals, groups or schools scooping top awards.
Rhondda Cynon Taf Council was delighted to showcase the green-themed work being undertaken across the County Borough, with Mayor, Cllr Rhys Lewis, praising the sterling efforts of all the deserving winners.
The public have been busy nominating their local ‘Green’ heroes and these applications went before an independent panel of judges before the winners were announced.
Councillor Ann Crimmings, Cabinet Member for Environment, Leisure & Culture, said: “The Love Where You Live Awards shine the spotlight on all the fantastic work that is going on within our communities, focusing on the people and projects that truly are making a difference to all of our lives.
“These are people who are committed to improving the local environment for the benefit of everyone, and the Love Where You Live Awards provide the perfect opportunity to reward each and every one of them.
“This is our opportunity to not only congratulate these remarkable people on their achievements, but also to encourage others to follow suit by ensuring that residents understand the importance of recycling and improving the environment.
“By working together, we can make Rhondda Cynon Taf an even cleaner and greener place to live, work and visit.”

In addition to the Council’s kerbside recycling services the Council also boasts seven dedicated Community Recycling Centres.
These are based in the following locations across the County Borough:

There will also be a reuse store so that anything which is reusable can be and this will dovetail into the Welsh Government Sector Plans for reuse.
All seven centres are manned and the attendants are happy to advise residents on recycling and assist them in disposing of their household material.
The centres are open Monday – Sunday 8:00 to 19:30 from April – October and Monday – Sunday 8:00 to 17:30 from November – March.
Residents are reminded to please clean all items and remove all bottle tops and lids before placing items in to the clear recycling bags for kerbside collection.
From January 2015 green waste has been collected by a separate vehicle, but still takes place on the same day as food and dry recycling collections. This is being carried out to help reduce contamination of garden/green waste. If we accidently miss your garden waste, please email us and a new collection time/date will be agreed.
