Mountain Ash Bridge – Repaired And Replaced

Mountain Ash Footbridge has been successfully repaired, restored and painted following an investment by the council as part of the £200m RCTinvest programme. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

This important footbridge is the main link for Mountain Ash Comprehensive school pupils to cross the busy A4059 as well as the general public. Following the investment the footbridge is now in tip-top condition ready for when the school re-opens this week. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The works were carried out during the summer holidays to keep any disruption to an absolute minimum and have been completed in time for the pupils to return to school. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Over £53m has already been invested in improving and repairing the County Borough’s Highways and Transportation Infrastructures and on Strategic Projects since 2011. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

This work demonstrates Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s commitment to maintain and improve the road infrastructure for the benefit of residents, businesses and visitors alike. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council, Councillor Andrew Morgan, who is also Cabinet Member for Highways, said: ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“The successful investment in Mountain Ash footbridge has seen an important structure that allows Mountain Ash Comprehensive School pupils to cross the busy A4059 repaired, re-painted and restored. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“The works to the footbridge also gave the engineers the opportunity to carry out specialist safety repairs – ahead of the new academic year. The works have improved this well-used safe route for local pupils to walk to school via the enhanced facilities and route for pedestrians. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“This work, along with a number of other key improvements along the busy A4059, demonstrates the Council’s continued commitment to maintain and improve this vital route in the Cynon Valley for the benefit of residents, businesses and visitors alike ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
