Newbridge Road, Llantrisant Re-Opens
Newbridge Road, Llantrisant has now been re-opened following substantial works to create a new pedestrian link as part of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s multi-million-pound (£23m) Highways, Transportation, Infrastructures and Strategic Projects (HTISP) Investment Programme.
The vital works have resulted in a new footway being installed along a section of Newbridge Road between Dan Caerlan and Brynteg Lane, Llantrisant, which now forms an important pedestrian link between the communities of Llantrisant and Beddau.
The £420,000 works funded through RCTinvest and the Welsh Government also included the erection of a retaining wall, drainage works, street lighting, full carriageway resurfacing and speed reduction measures.
In order to minimise disruption as much as possible the majority of works have been carried out during the school holidays to ensure school transport was not affected and when traffic flows in the area is reduced.
The works, that have now been substantially completed in time for pupils to return to school as planned, form part of the £23m investment scheme which is set to continue over the next three years and is part of the Council’s wider £200m RCTinvest programme.
The road closure has now been lifted; however some traffic management remains in place for a further week to carry out final finishing touches.
This multi-million-pound project will see the Council invest significantly in key priority areas, including; Leisure and Outdoor Leisure Facilities, Play Areas, Highways and Structures, Transport Infrastructure, Flood Alleviation, Schools, Recycling Facilities, Housing and Town and Village Centres.
Over £53m has already been invested in improving and repairing the County Borough’s Highways and Transportation Infrastructures and on Strategic Projects since 2011.
The HTISP Investment scheme will see a number of streets, roads, towns and villages right across the County Borough benefit as work is now ploughing ahead to tackle key areas.
This work demonstrates Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s commitment to maintain and improve the road infrastructure for the benefit of residents, businesses and visitors alike.
Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council, Councillor Andrew Morgan, who is also Cabinet Member for Highways, said:
“The Council and its Cabinet has recognised the concerns expressed by the public and the importance of investing in our key priorities, that is why we have allocated £200m over the next three years to improve areas such as Leisure and Outdoor Leisure Facilities, Play Areas, Highways and Structures, Transport Infrastructure, Flood Alleviation, Schools, Recycling Facilities, Housing and Town and Village Centres.
“The Newbridge Road works have not only created a vital link between the communities of Llantrisant and Beddau, but it will now also provide a safe route for local children to walk to school via the improved facilities and route for pedestrians. These works are in addition to works carried out to install the signal controlled pedestrian crossing along Talbot Road, Llantrisant which forms part of this wider Safer Route in the Community project.
